The Boy Coins a New Word
Jokecasm: a mode of mean-spirited humor depending for its effect on bitter, caustic and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual.
—jokecastic adjective
A snippet of conversation from our trip home from Book People Wednesday night after Patrice's book signing:
The husband:You did a good job tonight, kiddo.
Me:Yeah, thank you for behaving yourself, staying quiet and talking to my friends. You were a pretty good boy, and I'm proud of you.
Pause.
The boy: Mommy, are you being jokecastic, or are you being serious?
May the FSM help our boy for growing up in a house full of snarky bastards. But, hey, how many five year olds do you know who know what sarcasm is?
